Collateral
Ok, I just saw Collateral and since I started my blog, I'm going to try to make my first review about the movie. :p
Basic premise of the movie is about a cab driver (Jamie Foxx) who has lived this way for the past 12 years. A lot of people have come and gone from his cab but this time he has a very unique client. Vincent (Tom Cruise) is a hired hitman. When a drug cartel is suddenly in danger of being indicted by a federal grand jury, Vincent is hired to take out all the key witnesses of the case. 5 people in all.
Vincent lands in L.A. and hires Max to drive him around L.A. Circumstances suddenly force Vincent to hijack Max's cab (along with Max) and Max becomes collateral (literally an expendable person at the wrong place at the wrong time). Max is forced to drive Vincent around L.A. to each of the hits he has to perform. Chased by both the FBI and LAPD, Max now has to try to stay alive and stop Vincent at the same time.
The start of the movie is a bit slow for me, but basically it introduces our main protagonist Max, and his life as a cab driver. This is actually a short part but gives an insight to why he acts the way he does throughout the movie.
Vincent on the other hand is pretty consistent throughout most of the movie. He's calm, calculated, and very precise in his work. He almost seems like the perfect killer. As the movie progresses, we see that underneath all the cold calculating moves he does, he is still like the rest of us, human (albeit a cold calculating one :p)
Overall, the movie itself was quite an experience. It felt too open ended for my tastes but the story itself was captivating and would make you want to see how the plot ends. It doesn't, however, warrant more than one sitting (unlike some movies I love to watch over and over again) in my opinion.
Hope this would help some in deciding whether Collateral is a movie worth watching.
